What were your reasons for applying as an au pair?
The whole package, you get so much from just one experience. Learning about a culture, meeting new people, travelling, taking care of kids and improving your English. It’s just perfect for me.
Tell us about your host family:
My host family is big, 7 people! Mom and dad and 5 kids, the kids are all between 5 and 2. We have lots of fun!
Describe the area you live in:
Out in the country, I can see horses from my window!
What does a typical day look like?
Help the kids to get ready for school/daycare in the morning, off during the day. Work again when the kids get back from school/daycare in the evening.
What do/did you study and why did you choose the course?
None so far, didn’t match my schedule.
Tell us about any traveling you have done or are planning to do:
Have been to; New York, Boston, New Orleans, Chicago and right now in Texas! My goal is to have been to 20 states before I leave.
What have you gained during the year?
To not judge a book by it’s cover. That I can do a lot more stuff on my own that I taught.
What has been the best experience so far?
All the people I’ve met, wonderful au pairs and Americans.
How have you been spending you pocket money?
On clothes and adventures.
What do/did you find most challenging about being an au pair?
The feeling that I have no independence, since I often need help to find my way. Also the curfew does that.

If you are thinking about applying; Do it! If you don’t you are going to miss out on a great experience, you will regret your decision if you don’t apply. I’ve been through a re-match and changed from a family in New York with one child to my host family now in Texas with 5 children. This fits me much better!
