#10100605Washington D.C.

My husband, Christopher, and I were both born in Washington, DC. We have been married 10 years and have a son, Matt, who is 7 years old and a daughter, Melissa, who is 6 years old. We both have extended family in the Washington area and we live directly across the street from my parents. We enjoy spending time with our family and friends. I am an anesthesiologist and Christopher is a high school math teacher. During the summer months (end of June through the end of August) Christopher is out of school. During the summer the au pair would help Christopher with taking the children to camp and picking them up.
We need our au pair in the mornings before school and afternoons/evenings after school.

We need the au pair to wake Matt and Melissa up at 7:30 AM, help them get dressed, have breakfast, and drive them to school. The school is 10 minutes from our house and they get dropped off between 8:30 and 8:40 AM. We also need the au pair to pick Matt and Melissa up from school at 3:15 PM and bring them home or take them to their after school activity. Melissa takes piano lessons in our neighborhood and Matt is on a gymnastics team and takes Tai Kwan Do. On days when I do not work I enjoy picking, the children up from school and going to there after school activities.

I was born and raised in Washington, DC, but I traveled a lot as a child through Europe and as a young adult I spent time in Kenya and South Africa. Christopher and I have traveled with our children in the United States, Belize, and Costa Rica.

In 2003 Christopher and I moved into our current home. We have extensively remodeled since moving. Our au pair would have the attic as their private living space. The attic is carpeted and is 10 feet by 15 feet. There are two closets and two windows. The au pair would share a newly renovated full bathroom with Melissa.

Christopher and I do our best to set a good example for Matt and Melissa and we expect our au pair to do the same. There is no smoking in our home and we teach our children to be respectful and kind to others and expect the same in return.

The neighborhood that we live in is in the northern tip of Washington, DC just a few blocks from Maryland. We are walking distance to the Metro train and major bus routs. We are near movie theaters, shopping, restaurants, museums, monuments, and sporting arenas. Our community is very culturally diverse and there are many families with school-aged children.
During the summer we spend several weekends at our family beach house in Bethany Beach Delaware. The house sleeps ten and is walking distance to the beach. Bethany is a 2 1/2 hour drive from our home in Washington. DC. Our au pair would be welcome on our trips to the beach.

#100724Pefham Manor, New York.

We are a family of three, living quietly in a single-family residence in Pelham, New York. I am 49 years old, my wife is 47, and our son, David, is 8. We celebrate our birthdays in November and December. David is in fourth grade.

We value education highly. My wife and I both earned doctoral degrees in biochemistry, and then came to New York to pursue post-doctoral training. My wife subsequently entered the field of Intellectual Property law and earned her Jurist Doctor (law) degree.

When not working, we pursue our individual and common interests. I like to cook and garden. My wife reads avidly and participates in local book clubs. During the school year, our son, David engages in several after-school activities. These include religious education, soccer, martial arts, Cub Scouts, and music instruction. He's also happy to watch television, play Run escape, an online adventure game, and read. During the summer, David spends time in various day camp programs, sometimes music camp, and usually several nature camp venues. Family activities are mostly out-of-doors, although we are members of the New York Hall of Science, which we visit several times each year. We are also members of the New York Botanical Garden, which we visit frequently throughout the year.

In a typical day, David has a few minutes for diversions after he wakes up (around 7 AM), and then he joins me for breakfast. After that, he gets ready to leave the house, and my wife or I walk with him to school, which begins at 8:20 AM. He attends a small neighborhood school that includes grades K-5. We seek an au pair who will join us in helping our son develop good work habits and reach his potential. We try to instill in him the idea that one should fulfill obligations before desires. On an everyday basis, that amounts to homework before screen time (computer and video games and television). Qualities we deem important for an au pair are to be even-tempered and conscientious. For interaction with our son, paying a high level of attention to his educational and life-skills needs is of primary concern. We place a premium on clear two-way communication between our au pair and us.

We have a comfortable three-story center-hall colonial, which includes a finished attic on a small but adequate lot. The house has a semi-finished full cellar with a laundry room and 9 additional rooms, including 4 bedrooms, and 3.5 baths.

Our proximity to New York City and all it's cultural and social opportunities, which obviously are too numerous to list, is particularly significant. Our house is less than 15 minutes walking from a commuter rail station, and then a 30-minute ride from Grand Central Terminal in the center of Manhattan.

#10021701Long Island, New York.

Family living at Long Island, New York searching for an Au Pair to their 2 sons, 13 years and 8 years. This area is world famous for it’s fantastic beaches, both ocean and bay. Our house is about 10 km from the actual village and is surrounded by large fields, with plenty of wildlife residents; deer, red fox rabbits and pheasants. A car is a necessity in our area, and we have one that is considered to be the au pairs. We are both lawyers. My work is flexible. Two weeks of and two weeks on. This allows our au pair to take long weekends when I am not working, in order to travel to some of the many attractions in this area of the country.

Our prior au pairs have travelled to Boston, Washington DC, Niagara Falls, Pennsylvania, and Williamsburg Virginia to name a few spots. In addition, New York city is an easy bus ride and offers a wealth of attractions (museums, Broadway, shopping etc.) At summer it is no shortage of nightlife. As for education, some of the courses that our girls have taken include: Photography, painting, Italian, line dancing, golf, karate, cooking, dried flower arranging and any manner of computer courses. Our youngest son is always looking for someone to pitch a ball for him, take a bike ride or take him to practice his roller blading, take him swimming etc.

His older brother is happiest reading a book or playing games. He also plays the piano and is in the chorus at school. The au pairs main tasks are to drive the kids to activities, prepare supper, and in the morning, before school, made breakfasts and lunches (to take to school) help our oldest boy with homework’s. Every March we go skiing out in Colorado. I am hoping to find a mature, levelheaded girl who enjoys physical activity and has some interests in cooking healthy meals. Family is looking forward to meet you.

#10022109Chicago.

We are a typical family  (Irving and Lynn Craff) living in a suburb of Chicago. We have two children, a girl aged 8 and a boy aged 6 years old. Our daughter is creative, dramatic and energetic. She loves nothing more than to dance, play dress-up, paint sing, read books and ride her bike. Our son is a happy boy who loves to play in the back yard with his trucks, balls and action figures. They get along well most of the time but our son is a strong character and does not let his older sister call all the shots!

We live 1 1/2 miles from the beaches of Lake Michigan and only 30 minutes drive to the city.  We are a very busy family involved in many sporting activities. We have two holiday homes, one is a cottage in Indiana and the second is a ski condo in Utah. In summertime you can enjoy many relaxing events at the lakefront including a small sailboat that we have or just relax on the beach.  In winter you can ice-skate in or outdoors and get to know the many au pairs that live in our neighbourhood!

We are looking for someone to become close to our family while caring, teaching and playing with our children. We are looking forward to meeting someone who genuinely enjoys playing with children. We want someone who is honest and out-going. We believe that children need routine, sleep, encouragement, praise, education, manners, discipline and most of all love and affection.

#11071405Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Dear Au pair,
My name is Vanessa and I live in Ridgefield, Connecticut with my husband David and my three children, Cody age 9, Alexa (age 7) and Hunter (age 2 1/2). Hunter will turn three on November 1 2010. The town we live in is about an hour train ride from New York City. The train is about 20 minutes drive from our town. There are approximately 25,000 people that live in Ridgefield. It is a beautiful and safe town. Our house is situated so that the basement level is our au pairs floor with a bedroom and living room space and an entrance from the outside from the au pairs bedroom. It is private and comfortable.

Our children as I have been told by my previous au pairs are well behaved and respectful children. The girls are in school from 7:30 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday, September thru June. They have summer vacation July and August. School starts end of August. My au pairs primary concern is for Hunter. He is very cute and fun to be around. I like au pairs to make friends with other au pairs and have play dates. Hunter naps far a couple hours in the afternoon.

My husband David and I work full time. At the present time, I work Monday thru Thursday, so any au pair has Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays off. You would start work at 7:00 a.m. and finish around 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. Your responsibilities would be to make sure the girls do their homework and all three children are bathed. Keep Hunter a schedule and feed him breakfast, lunch and snack. I think the biggest concern for most au pairs is to know when they are working and not working. We are pretty true to our schedules with an occasional change that you would be informed of before hand. An occasional Friday or Saturday night once in a while would be appreciated. We have a car for our au pair to transport the children to activities and for your personal use as long as it is not being abused. Example: try to share to driving with other au pairs.

We don’t travel that much but do take a few vacations during each year. Sometime to Florida (Disney World) or skiing in Vermont or Vacation on the ocean in Cape Code, Massachusetts.

All of our previous au pairs (6 in total) still keep in contact with us. We consider our au pairs as members of our family for life.

As for activities, we like to ski in the winter and swim in the summer. We live close to a lake and my parents who live in our town have a beautiful pool as well. Cody plays softball and Alexa likes gymnastics. Hunter is still too young to have any organized activity but loves to play with trucks.

David is a very good cook and makes most dinners in our home. Thank God because my cooking isn't so great.

We would welcome the opportunity to speak to you and see if we would be a match. I look forward to hearing from you.

Au PairVintern 2010
#10071401Philadelphia, PA.

We have a small, tight-knit family that includes Landon, Shelby and Carson. Landon is vice-president of business development at a marketing research company. Shelby is a marketing executive for Merck, one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. Both of us have Masters Degrees and have been working for the pharmaceutical industry for ten years. Our son, Carson, will turn five this August and will begin kindergarten in the fall. He currently attends pre-school for a full day. We spend lots of time with our extended family, including Landon’s grandparents; aunts, uncles, and cousins.

We live in a large two-story home in the Philadelphia suburbs, about seven miles from the city limits. For our au pair, we have a large bedroom with a private full bathroom on the second floor of our home. It has a lovely bay window, which overlooks our wooded backyard. Opportunities for relaxing abound in our home, be it in the great room, kitchen, living room, screened in porch, flagstone patio, private backyard, or finished basement. We also have a workout room and a wooded trail close to our home, for running, cycling, or walking.

We live in a wonderful community, which is within three miles of two college campuses, and is close to both Philadelphia and the country. We live within minutes of the train station, which takes you directly into the city. In addition, both New York and Washington, DC are within 100 miles of Philadelphia and are both accessible by train. The cultural opportunities and historical attractions in these cities are among the finest in the states. More surprising are the hidden gems that abound in PA, including the Amish country in Lancaster, the rich artistic, rural, and literary history of Bucks County, and the legacy of the Duponts and Wyeths in the Brandywine River Valley. Having family in New England brings us there frequently, and provides an opportunity to go to the beach and the mountains for skiing. Of course, the Poconos Mountains are also within a short drive of our home - making for winter day trips to the slopes. We love to explore all of these treasures and welcome the opportunity to do this with our au pair!

#10088404Washington D.C.

Dear Au Pair:
We are living in a house in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. Washington is the National Capitol of the US and there are a lot of free activities in the area and a large international community. There are also a lot of colleges and universities giving you a lot of choice in educational opportunities.

Our children are Brianna who is 8 years old and James who is 10 years old. Their school is few blocks from our home. They are both interested in fencing, enjoy riding their bikes, going to the swimming pool, playing games like Monopoly, Guess Who, Lords of the Ring, Risk, etc... This year they have started their own vegetable garden. They have friends in the neighborhood or close by they like to play with at our house or at their friend's house.
We have a cat, Simba and a guinea pig, Fireball.

Jasmine is originally from France. She is an attorney. Her work is 20 minutes from our house. Robert is from New York City. Robert is a social worker and works with teenagers.

We are looking for an au pair that will help the children with their homework, reading, and playing with them. The children go to school from about 8:30 in the morning to 3:10 p.m. in the afternoon. For the school year we will need the Au Pair to take care of the children from the end of school to about 6:30 p.m. at night (sometimes a little later). On some occasions we will ask you to baby-sit to complete your weekly hours. In the summer your hours will -be a little longer since summer camp may last just the mornings and you may need to work from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

You will have your own bedroom next to the family room, which will provide you an extended room in the evening with access to the TV. We have had 4 au pairs and 2 students over the summer in the past. In the past Au Pairs have had the opportunity to do activities on the weekends with our family or go out with their friends on their own. You can choose what you prefer. We go up to New York City a couple of times a year to visit Robert’s parents. You can have the opportunity to come along and see New York. You will have access to a car to go to school and to use sometimes on the weekends.
We are looking forward meeting you and having fun.

#10071402Springfield, PA.

Hello my name is Sofia and my husband is Victor. We have 2 fabulous children, Lucas who is 4 and Lily is 2. We are expecting another boy in september and plan on naming him Antonio. We live in Springfield PA, which is about 20 minutes from historic downtown Philadelphia. There is lots of public transportation within walking distance and we do have a 3rd vehicle. Our home is less than 2 hours from the Jersey beaches, less than 3 hours from Washington DC and less than 3 hours from the mountains. We love the outdoors and getaways with the children. Springfield has lots of parks and a great library and close community.

Our home is on 2/3 of an acre and your room would look out towards the woods and has a hot tub right outside your room on the deck. It will have a brand new king size bed, bureau, 2 nightstands, and lots of windows. It adjoins a full bath and is on the 1 st floor. It is actually part of a 1-year-old beautiful addition and is the master bedroom in the house. We will be on the 2nd floor with the children's rooms.

There is a lot of downtime with school and naps and we may ask for light chores to be done such as putting toys away (children should assist), emptying the dishwasher, and some ironing once in awhile. We do have a housecleaning service come in every 2 weeks.

You will have access to our 3rd vehicle but we would never allow it to be out past midnight. So if you need transportation past that time, we would suggest that you have a friend drive. We prefer a non-smoker and someone who is very honest and open. We have a big extended family and you are welcome to share in any of the family activities that you would like.

We are looking to share a cultural exchange experience and believe that we are very easy to get along with and are extremely approachable. I think that you will enjoy our children, our home, and everything Philadelphia and the surrounding areas have to offer. We are looking forward to talking to you and welcoming you into our home as a one of the family.

#10125466Boston, Massachusett.

#10100577Long Island, New York.

Familj i New York söker en Au Pair.

#10111308Atlanta.

Hi, let me introduce you to my family. I am a 37-year old single mom to a 4.5 year old son.  My husband and I divorced when our son was only 6 months old, but we remain friendly and are committed to ensuring a loving environment for our son. My ex-husband lives just 20 minutes away from us, and keeps our son Wednesday afternoons through Friday after school.

We have had 2 au pairs to date –both from South Africa. We were extremely pleased with both experiences-our au pairs were patient with our son, were hard working and flexible.

Our son’s favourite thing right now is playing with his pirate ship. He loves books, trucks, planes and other typical boy things. He really enjoys his swimming lessons and going to the park. He has many aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents and the closest relatives live about 2 hours away in Columbus, GA. I am sure our au pair will come with us on one of the trips to Columbus during the year. We live in a suburb of Atlanta about 30 minutes North of the city. We live in quite a large neighbourhood with about 2,400 acres of residential homes.

We are lucky enough to have a pool and a hot tub. Atlanta is a fantastic city with lots to offer. Our home is a very busy one-with relatives coming to stay most weekends. We look forward to our new au pair as an addition to the family and hope that you will come to love our son, as you own little nephew or brother.

Au PairHösten 2010
#10050804Solon, Ohio.

My husband Spencer and I (Charlott) have been married for 13 years. We have 2 affectionate, happy and healthy children: Connor (Boy - 7 years old) and Teresa (Girl - 6 years old). Connor and Teresa currently attend the Solon Elementary school (2nd and 1st grades respectively). Our main priority is to provide a happy, healthy and stimulating environment for our children. We spend a lot of time engaged in academically and socially oriented activities. Our family also enjoys traveling within the United States. As part of our family, the au pair is welcomed to come visit these and other cities with us.

We believe that mutual consideration is very important in all respects. We all have to share a house and live under one roof as a family therefore, we have to respect each other's sleep, quiet, work and personal times. In addition, we all need to be mindful of the children's safety and security, at all times.

Since I work fulltime, the au pair will be taking care of our children Monday through Friday. The au pair will dress and feed the kids in the morning and get them off to school which starts at 8 am. The au pair will be picking up the children from school at 2:30 pm and will be with the kids until I return home from work around 6 pm. It is our hope that the au pair will cook lunch and dinner for the children as well as tidy up after the children and do the children's laundry. It is our hope however, that during the week the au pair will create a stimulating environment for our children - playing educational games with them, working on the computer with them, helping them with their homework and taking them to their social activities.

We live in a 9 room single family home in Solon, Ohio. Solon is a suburban community approximately 30 minutes from metropolitan Cleveland (recently rated as one of the best places to live in Ohio). We live in a quiet, friendly, and safe community that offers a variety of recreational and educational resources for all ages. In audition, Soion and the surrounding communities offer exquisite shopping facilities ranging from discount outlets to luxury malls. In addition, there are several reputable community and state colleges in the vicinity that continuously host parties, concerts, festivals, lectures, and other interesting activities.

We live in a beautiful area that has snow in the winter, lots of sun in the summer and the spring and the fall are the most beautiful times of the year.

Our 3 oldest children attend school every day, they leave at 7:15 and return at 3:00 pm. Our 2 youngest children attend nursery school some mornings during the week - you will transport them.

Our oldest son Phil has cerebra palsy. He is mildly affected. He walks and talks but is clumsy and hard to understand. He has never been a concern or an issue for previous child care providers. He is a very sweet and loving child that easily entertains himself. He does need some help getting dressed and needs to be reminded to use the bathroom.

Our youngest daughters Julie and Katie are adopted from China. They both made an easy adjustment, and it is like they have been part of our family forever.
We both work outside the home in banking. Susan is a manager in the branch system and Mark works with the bank's computers. We commute one hour each way. We both enjoy working.

You will have evenings and weekends free and regular hours during the week. Our schedule is very predictable - which works out nicely for an AuPair who is anxious to schedule classes and activities outside of work hours.

Our children love having an Au Pair. They enjoy listening to music and arts and crafts projects. They are fairly busy after school having friends over and doing sports activities. We will need your help keeping things organized and on schedule.

You should enjoy children of all ages and be willing to be flexible. A person who is comfortable handling many tasks at one time will work out the best! We will work hard to make sure your stay in America is an enjoyable one. We have been very fortunate to have 3 wonderful Au Pairs over the past three years and we are anxious to have you join our family!

Dear Perspective Family Member,
Greetings from the Jordans Family in Beverly Hills Michigan. Beverly Hills is located approximately 30 minutes to the north of Detroit. Our family consists of Peter, 45 years old, Melissa 9 years old and Jonathan 7 years old. Melissa, wife and mother, died in June, 1999 of breast cancer. I have been an automotive engineer at Ford Motor Company for 10 years. I work Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, with a half hour drive each way. I have college degrees in Finance and Engineering. Shania and Jonathan go to an elementary school very close to our house and are doing very well in their studies. We go to Catholic Church on Sunday mornings. Jonathan and Shania are involved in many activities that fill the time after school and on weekends.

The activities include swimming, hockey, dance, piano and baseball, with more to come. My goals for Jonathan and Shania are to grow as happy, healthy, active children in a stable environment. Their care and well being are of the utmost importance to me, and the reason we would like to have an au pair be part of our family.

We will welcome an au pair as a part of our family, included in all activities and expected to help with duties around the house and driving the children to activities.

Because driving is a big part of the au pair's responsibilities, they should be proficient at driving and enjoy it. There will be ample free time for the au pair and access to transportation. I enjoy doing activities with Shania and Jonathan which the au pair will be invited to join, or there may be times the au pair would like to be with their friends or on their own, which will be respected. We are looking for an au pair who is family oriented, who likes to join in with family activities and functions. We would like someone who is responsible and organized, as with all our busy schedules this will be a must. We all work together in our family for the betterment of all, and we like to play together for the enjoyment of all. Private time is necessary and respected for all.

We live in a suburban town that is 1 hour away from New York City. We have three children and they are the main focus of our lives and it is essential that we have an au pair that takes very good care of our children. My wife and I both work full time in the local area, but we make an effort to take time off from work to attend the children’s special events and our children’s happiness, health and safety is crucial.

Our children are happy, cheerful individuals who take part in many activities and have many friends and they develop a very close friendship with the au pair. The most important qualities that our au pair must have are patience and a love for children. She must be independent enough to make new friendships and willing to become a member of our family and enjoy our family activities with us.

Our family has had au pairs for twelve years and we can’t wait to meet our new au pair!

We are Mark and Sophie, and our two sons, Steve, who is twelve, and Bill, who is almost ten years old. Steve has red hair and blue eyes (he looks like Sophie) and is talkative and very dramatic. Steve, who looks like Mark, has brown hair and eyes and is quietly mischievous. Both boys are happy, healthy, intelligent and interested in a million things. Sophie is a director at the American Gas Association where she is responsible for rate programs and regulatory affairs. Sophie travels about once a month, sometimes taking the family with her. Mark is a manager of engineering programs with Lockheed Martin Corporation. His area of expertise is computer systems. We both have advanced university degrees and education is very important to us. Our family likes sports, drama and music, reading and learning, and having fun.

Steve and Bill are older children who no longer need the close, careful supervision that babies and younger children require. Instead, they need companionship, teaching, guidance and chauffeuring. They attend school, have swim and soccer lessons, go to choir practice, participate in Boy Scout activities and attend Sunday school at church. Steve is in the sixth grade in school and Chris is in fourth. During the summer, the boys take swim class, participate in swim competitions and attend drama and sport camps, but not all day long or every day. The boys like to play on the computer, read, practice music, play video games, throw and kick a ball with our au pair, ride their bikes, play board games and card games, and play with their bunny.

Our au pair takes care of the boys for about seven hours each day; two hours in the morning and five after school, with six hours off during the day. The duties include pre-paring meals for the boys, packing school lunches, taking the boys to the bus stop, cleaning the kitchen after their meals, tidying the boys' room, doing the boys’ laundry, helping with homework, keeping track of everything that the boys do during the day, helping with school projects and artwork, escorting to music practices, driving to sports and other activities. Our au pair also works one Saturday morning or one Saturday evening every month. The other weekends are all free for our au pair to travel, socialize, visit with her host family or just relax.

Our home is in a quiet, friendly and safe Virginia neighborhood that is a suburb of the nation's capital, Washington, DC. Fairfax County, is home to nearly one million people.

We have had au pairs for twelve years and it has been such a positive and rewarding experience that we are looking forward to another year with a foreign au pair. We are sure that our au pair will have a wonderful year, too!

We are looking for someone responsible to care for our children while we are working during the day. Since you will be living with us it's also important that we find someone who will fit well within our family.

So, let me tell you a little about our family. We live close to San Francisco in Northern California with our 2 year old daughters and our chocolate lab who is also considered a member of our family. We have another set of twins due in September. My husband and I both work full time Monday - Friday. I work about 50% of the time from home, and my husband about 20% of the time.

Being in the San Francisco Bay Area, we are not only close to San Francisco (a 45 minute train ride), but we are also close to many wonderful and beautiful vacation destinations such as Napa, Monterey, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. Within our town of Dublin, there are numerous parks and trails for enjoying the outdoors during the week.

We are the kind of people who enjoy the outdoors and having great friends around. We will often BBQ with friends or just the family. We used to camp a lot (prior to having children). We enjoy traveling, football, wine tasting and skiing when we have the time. As for what we are looking for in an Au Pair, we want someone who can fit into the family. We should have a mutual respect for one another and feel comfortable around each other. Since we will be welcoming you as a member of our family, we would like you to feel comfortable enough to treat us the same way. I would hope to find someone with similar values and beliefs on child rearing. I'd like someone who has good instincts and will take initiative.
I look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely
Robin

Come live with us in Boston! We actually live about 15 minutes (by car, 30 minutes by subway) from the city, in a suburb called Newtown. We moved into a beautiful Victorian house in two years ago when we needed a little extra room for the twins who were on their way.

My name is Palmer and my husband's name is Daniel. We have three girls and a boy: Willa is almost 7, Daphne and McLane are 5 1/2, and Steve is 2 years old. Daphne and McLane are identical twins but were actually born on different days -- one on the 15th of January and the other on the 16th. Willa is quite a character - full of curiosity and laughter. The twins are also very good natured and playful. All three play very well together, but are also happy doing their own thing.

The baby is 4 months now and is full of smiles. He loves to gurgle and bang a rattle. Every week he changes a little and learns something new, so it's an exciting time. Daniel and I both work full time (for different companies). He's a Vice President of Sales and I'm a Vice President/General Manager in my family's business. Daniel’s job will require him to travel more and more so he will probably be away two nights a week. I rarely travel for business, but usually take a class one night a week.

When we are not working, we love to take walks with our kids - there is a great playground on a river close to the house. In general, we're a pretty active family. Daniel and I love sports - tennis, golf, skiing, biking etc. and love to be outdoors. Before we had children, we also traveled quite a lot - mostly in Europe, though we also have been to New Zealand and Australia.

From our traveling experiences, we have come to appreciate and be interested in different cultures which are why the au pair program is so appealing to us. Our first au pair, Rocio, was from Ecuador and taught Willa many words in Spanish. Our second au pair was from Thailand and taught the girls how to say thank you in Thai while pressing her hands together. She also has taught us a lot about Thai cooking and culture. Our last two au pairs have been from German. Both were patient and warm and taught the children many new skills. Perhaps you can teach us something new!

We hope you will like not only our family, but also the wonderful area we live in. Boston is a great city and from here, you can explore New England to the North and New York City to the South. In addition, there are many au pairs in the area so you will have the opportunity to make friends.

Though we lead busy lives, we are pretty easy going. We keep a tidy house, appreciate humor, honesty and, of course, a lot of enthusiasm for our children!

Hi there! We are Bill and Kim. Our daughter, Linda is eight years old and is interested in so many things. She will be in 3rd grade next year. Some of her favorite activities are reading, playing the piano, taking nature walks, playing with her friends, going to ballet class, and telling jokes.  Her favorite toys are stuffed animals or "stuffies", as Linda calls them.

Bill and I both work full time, and Linda’s school closes at approximately 2:30. So, our primary need is for someone to pick her up after school and to take her either home or to local activities. We also ask that you take her to school in the morning (at approximately 8:15).

Linda will have at least a couple scheduled activities next year - i.e., piano and ballet lessons -and probably one or two after-school/at school classes - i.e., Spanish. She has homework from school almost every day, which we will ask you to prompt her to do.

Linda likes getting together with her friends and arranging/driving her to play-dates will be part of your job. She also enjoys going to the playground, taking nature walks, reading (she currently reads two years beyond her grade level), and walking into town for a pastry or ice cream. She will love hearing about your country and your life there - and that, I believe, is our major attraction to the au Pair program. Linda has been fascinated by her school's geography/foreign country lessons, and has enjoyed learning about our last two au Pair's (one from South Africa and one from Germany) backgrounds and lives.

We live within a half-mile of the town center, and right next to the town fields and reservoir, so both stores and "green space" are within easy walking distance. Needham is a suburb of Boston, which is a large city and the capital of the state of Massachusetts. You will also have use of a car, and in fact we ask that you be comfortable driving - since Linda’s school is about two miles from the house, and her activities will require short, in-town driving.

Your room is in a separate addition in the back of the house and is off Linda’s playroom, which is a beautiful, sun-lit roam that has large windows overlooking our backyard. There are large desks there for you to do any schoolwork and writing on.

Bill and I both have extended family nearby, and we spend time with them and also with friends. On weekends, we enjoy trips into Boston, and going to museums or parks or movies. We especially enjoy exposing Linda to the rich and textured history of New England by visiting many of the historical sites nearby.

The only restrictions that we are that you not smoke and that you are not allergic to our cats.

There are five of us in the household. Six if you count Bill’s turtle Shadow. We live in a beautiful neighborhood less than one hour from Manhattan. Our house is small for New York standards; 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large backyard. We have lots of friends in our neighborhood and everyone is very friendly. Dorothy (Mom) commutes to the city every day and is an architect. Michael (Dad) commutes in the opposite direction every day and works as a production manager.

Denise is the oldest child and is now 12 years old. She will be 13 years old in May and is so excited since she will be allowed to have her ears pierced! She is bright, interesting and extremely energetic. Her goal in life is to become a Broadway star and she is very serious about that! She works hard at singing and dancing. She takes private voice lessons and ballet and tap. She is an excellent student as well and works very hard to achieve great grades.

Tom is our middle guy. He is 10 years old. He is the most loving, thoughtful boy there could ever be. He loves turtles and his plan is to save all the sea turtles someday. His grandparents even took him down to Florida this past year to visit the sea turtles. He knew more about the turtles than the tour guides. He struggles a bit in school and has trouble focusing, but he really tries his best at everything. He has a private tutor come to the house once a week to help him. He loves to play any kind of sport and is the best goalie on the soccer team.

Johnny is the "baby" of the family and he really takes advantage of this fact. He just loves to be loved, held, and treated like a baby. He is already 6 years old! Denise adores him! He only has one friend his age and is use to playing with the big kids. Every weekend you'll see Johnny out there with the boys which often include a few of the other boys in the neighborhood playing every sport you can imagine. Johnny wants to be a football player when he grows up. He is very athletic so who knows!

Michael enjoys playing his electric guitar, basketball, jogging, reading, and being outside. Dorothy is usually too busy but use to play the violin. She tries to go jogging a few times a week and enjoys her free time being with the family. We love being together as a family and look forward to having another opportunity to meet someone new. We have had eight Au Pairs and all have had wonderful experiences with our family, Many of these Au Pairs have come back to visit. It's fun to watch them grow up into adults.

Our family consists of Brian, Sarah, Vera, Tracey, our dogs Snoopy & Lucy and our current Au Pair, Nina. We live in a fairly small town about 40 minutes drive from Washington, D.C.

We enjoy our small quiet neighborhood but also like being within easy driving distance to Washington, Baltimore, and Annapolis. All the nation's museums and monuments are in Washington along with any kind of cultural event one might want to participate in. We live 10 minutes from the Chesapeake Bay and 2 hours from the Atlantic Ocean. Overall this is the perfect place to live for just about any kind of activity an Au Pair might wish to undertake.

Brian is a consultant for a company that trains pilots. Sarah is an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). She works at an airport called BWI Airport just outside the city of Baltimore.

Vera is 12 years old. She is currently in seventh grade at Windy Hill Middle School. She is an enthusiastic student. Vera loves to learn about anything; especially animals, Spanish, and reading. For fun Vera attends cheerleading competitions. She has gotten very good at back handsprings. Her favorite color is purple and her favorite animal is her dog Snoopy.

Tracey is 11 years old and she will go to the same school as Vera in August. Tracey loves school, however she sometimes views it as more of a social opportunity than an academic one. Tracey has a rich fantasy life; she is always acting out a scene in a movie. She loves dress-up. Tracey loves her Barbie's and stuffed animals, make-up and the color PINK. Tracey is also a cheerleader and a dancer. Both girls enjoy watching movies on the weekends. Their favorite television shows are American Idol, Survivor, and The Gilmore Girls. As a family we enjoy attending out of town cheerleading competitions, camping, bicycling, visiting local sites, and attending fairs. We enjoy traveling. Last year we went to Hawaii, The Dominican Republic, Alabama, Tennessee, New York City and Disney World.

We have had Au Pairs in our home for almost 13 years and enjoy the experience very much. It is comforting to know that Vera and Tracey are in capable hands while we're working. Having an Au Pair in our family allows our children to have consistent structure, discipline, activity, love and caring throughout their day. We hope to find another Au Pair who will fit into our family as well as all the others that have come before them.

My ex-husband and I were married in August, 1998. We started our family soon after with our son, Martin, being born in 1999. Three years later, in June of 2002 our daughter, Gwen was born. At this same time we decided to start our own business. We pour concrete foundations for new homes in southern Maryland.

Martin and Gwen are both great kids who receive excellent grades in private school and enjoy a variety of outdoor and indoor activities.

Martin will be eleven years old this May. He is a calm, humorous child who is able to do most things by himself. He enjoys playing computer and Nintendo games, and numerous sports activities including basketball, baseball, swimming and tennis. Martin likes movies, amusement parks and having friends over to the house. Martin is a very likable individual and requires minimal supervision.

Gwen is an affectionate child however needs more attention than my eleven year old. She too can be hilarious and interacts well with people of all ages. Gwen enjoys gymnastics, computer games, ballet, tap and playing with baby dolls.

Both children currently go to School in Laurel Maryland. The school requires the children be driven to and from school each day, a responsibility that I need to share with someone.

Our family activities include ice-skating, family gatherings, swimming parties, cookouts, holiday events and 2 vacations per year. In June of each year we go to Ocean City, MD for 2 weeks. In December we normally go to a resort with outdoor activities available. Our new family member must be able to drive, swim, discipline and play with the children, help them with their homework and be their friend.

The hours for the au pair will be afternoon to evening hours and weekends during the summer the schedule may change to include daytime hours. In addition, the new family member must be able to speak English in order to communicate with our family. I am more than willing to help them improve their English but need someone that we all can communicate with.

I have a housekeeper from Guatemala who works in our home on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Nina normally arrives around 8:00 AM and leaves at about 1:00 PM. In addition, I work from the home and have appointments scheduled on certain days. It is important for the au pair to know that she will have her privacy within her room but other than that, silence is a rarity within our household.

My family is truly dedicated to having the right person to add as a family member. I hope our candidate likewise has the same goal. My sincere hope for our au pair is to provide an enriching experience and receive one in return.
Thank you

Dear Future Au Pair
We are looking forward to meeting you and having you join our family during the coming year. This past year we have hosed our second au pair. We have enjoyed the wonderful care that has been provided for our children and look forward to continuing on with the au pair program.

We have three children in our family. Our oldest son, Patric is 17. We adopted him from Russia when he was 12. You will not have any responsibility for his care. He has full days at school during the week and typically spends time with friends on the weekend.

Our other two children are twins, Ben and Jacob. They are almost 5 1/2 years old. You will be responsible for caring for them 3 full days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) while I (Maya) am working. This schedule is very consistent but I occasionally have meetings or errands on Mondays or Fridays and will need your help as those situations arise. Chris and I also try to have weekly date nights, on a Friday or Saturday night; so that we can have some quiet time together to talk and focus on our marriage relationship.

Ben and Jacob are delightful children. We have many guests into our home for various occasions and we find that the children are quite open and receptive to new people. So, we anticipate that the transition between our current au pair and you will go smoothly.

The kids love to play outside, read books, go to the park, play with a neighbor friend and sing songs. We think you'll have a great time getting to know them. Our current and former au pairs have done a wonderful job with disciplining the children as needed and they have been very responsive to the au pairs acting in that role of authority. They will at times argue with one another about toys and sometimes hit each other out of anger. These situations are handled with "time outs" which have been effective. We always ask them to say they are sorry and to make up with one another with a hug and a kiss.

Because they are the same age, Ben and Jacob will do almost everything together. This includes daily home activity from waking up, playing together, eating meals, attending events and classes, to preparation for bedtime and going to sleep.

We live in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and one of the main reasons we moved to Lincoln was to get our children into a great school system. We have 5 children in all, Christopher is 15, Pamela is 14 and Allison will turn 13 this year. They really require very little supervision. The two younger boys are Charles 8 and Bob, 6. Bob will start 1st Grade in September, and Charles will start 3rd Grade in September. They will mostly need supervision from 3PM to 7 PM.

Elizabeth's father lives with us, he is 86. He is a very healthy 86 and can still drive. We have three vehicles in the family so the Au Pair will have access to a vehicle and will be asked to drive the children to local activities. Our house has a lot of living space on two levels. The children have their bedrooms and bathroom and very large living / play area on the bottom floor. There are three upstairs bedrooms, ours with its own bathroom, and then one for use by the Au Pair and for Elizabeth's father, and there is a full bath for use by those two bedrooms. The Au Pair's room is quite large with a good size closet and queen size bed. We will provide a CD / DVD / TV for the room. Also upstairs are the living rooms, kitchen and dining room.

The house is located at the end of a cull-de-sac, it is a quiet street with all houses on 2-acre wooded lots. We are a 5-minute drive from a train for downtown Boston. We are a 5-minute walk to Walden Pond, and a 5-minute drive to a school swimming pool and tennis courts. We are a 40-minute drive from downtown Boston and from nice North Shore beaches and a 1.5 hour drive from Cape Cod. We are close to Gyms and Shopping Malls.

Evan and I have twins, Emily and Paul. We have been married almost 6 years and are both attorneys. Evan is a litigator and works in a law firm in Toledo, Ohio. I am a corporate attorney for a large public company. I work in downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan and we live in a suburb called Saline.

Evan and I are interested in physical fitness. Evan enjoys lifting weights and we have a home gym. He also enjoys shooting skeet and trap, and ridding his motorcycle. I am an avid runner and have run 16 marathons. I also enjoy other sports such as swimming, biking, tennis, lifting, yoga, and skiing. We spend most of our free time with the kids, visiting our families in Ohio, and working out. We go "home" to Youngstown, Ohio at least one weekend a month, and like to travel whenever possible.

The twins have always been cared for in our home, but we have never had a live in childcare provider. Emily and Paul are very different in almost every way but get along with each other very well. Emily is a good sleeper, loves to read books, and enjoys being "out and about" with other people. Paul resists sleep, likes puzzles, blocks, riding toys, and is more of a homebody then his sister. They both love being around other children and they go to play group and music classes at least once a week. In the fall, we are planning to have the go to "school" a few mornings a week to get more interaction with other children.

We have a four-bedroom house with 3 and one half bathrooms. The guest room has its own full bath. There is a finished basement for the kids to run around and play, and we have a large yard (an acre and a half).

Saline is 10 minutes from Ann Arbor, MI, the home of the University of Michigan. There are plenty of young people and activities around the campus. We are 40 minutes from Toledo, Ohio and almost an hour from Detroit, MI.

We are Catholic, but open to any religious background. We don't like to have a lot of rules; we just want our kids to be clean, happy and healthy. We like them to eat healthy meals, get lots of exercise, and live in a clean and pleasant environment. We don't like the kids to watch too much television, we don't swear in our house, and there is no smoking. Otherwise, we are pretty laid back.
